Tsarukyan recently revealed how his matchup with Ruffy came
\ntogether during an appearance on the \u201cDeep Waters\u201d podcast.
\nAccording to the lightweight contender, he had already agreed to
\nface former
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> titleholder Charles
\nOliveira<\/a> in a rematch and had begun his training camp in
\nArmenia when he was informed of the change.<\/p>\n

Tsarukyan says Charles Oliveira was originally lined up for a
\nUFC 331 rematch<\/h2>\n

Tsarukyan explained that the tragic death of Oliveira\u2019s teammate,
\nAllan
\nNascimento<\/a>, prompted the change of opponent for the UFC
\n331<\/a> co-headliner.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said yes, versus Oliveira,\u201d Tsarukyan said. \u201cI said yes and then
\nI started my training camp in Armenia. And then Oliveira\u2019s friend
\ndied and then they said, we\u2019re looking for the new one. Then Ruffy
\ncame up and I said, yeah. Because already in the camp and I need
\none fight, because this year I haven\u2019t fought, so I said, it\u2019s a
\ngood fight for me, so I took that fight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tsarukyan also claimed that the UFC confirmed to him that a win
\nover Ruffy guarantees a title shot.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter this, for sure I\u2019m fighting for the title,\u201d Tsarukyan
\nadded.<\/p>\n

Notably, Tsarukyan previously claimed that Oliveira used the death
\nof his teammate as an
\nexcuse to withdraw<\/a> from the bout.<\/p>\n
