\ntroubles.<\/p>\n

Smith is set to fight Jordan
\nHeiderman<\/a> in the main event of
\nGamebred Bare-Knuckle MMA 12<\/a> on Oct. 2 in the Dominican
\nRepublic. The former
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> light heavyweight was arrested
\nin Sarpy County, Nebraska, in July following an alleged altercation
\nwith his wife. Smith is currently out on bail and faces four felony
\ncharges.<\/p>\n

Smith\u2019s wife came out in his support soon after the arrest.
\nMeanwhile, the former UFC title challenger recently issued a
\nstatement, promising to tell his version of the story soon.
\nGamebred FC also released a statement, explaining their stance.<\/p>\n

While Gamebred FC isn\u2019t undermining the charges against Smith, they
\nconsider him innocent until proven otherwise. Gamebred FC also
\nwants to allow Smith to continue to earn while he deals with his
\nlegal issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we announce Anthony Smith\u2019s return to the Gamebred FC cage, I
\nwant to speak directly about where our organization stands,\u201d
\nGamebred FC president and COO Lex McMahon<\/a>
\nwrote in the statement. \u201cAnthony is facing serious allegations, and
\nlike every person in this country, he is entitled to due process
\nand the presumption of innocence while his case moves through the
\ncourts. He has pleaded not guilty and that process deserves to play
\nout fully and fairly on its own timeline, without a promotion, a
\nheadline, or public opinion getting ahead of the facts. Anthony
\nalso has a family to provide for and competing is how he does that.
\nTaking away his ability to earn a living before he has had his day
\nin court is not something Gamebred FC is willing to do to him or to
\nthe people who depend on him. Jorge and I have known Anthony and
\nhis family for years. What we have seen, up close and over time, is
\na loving, devoted husband and father \u2014 nothing else. That doesn\u2019t
\nmean we are closing our eyes to what has been reported. It means
\nthat we also know there is more to this story than has made it into
\nthe headlines. And we believe Anthony deserves the chance to tell
\nit fully, in the appropriate setting, not through speculation. Our
\nsupport for Anthony going forward is not a statement on the
\nspecifics of the case \u2014 those will be decided by the court, as they
\nshould be. It is a statement about fairness, about due process, and
\nabout standing by someone we know until we are given real reason
\nnot to. We will have no further comment on the legal proceedings
\nand ask that Anthony and his family\u2019s privacy be respected as this
\ncontinues.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smith (39-22) exited the UFC following a loss to Mingyang
\nZhang<\/a> last year. \u201cLionheart\u201d has since knocked out Chase
\nSherman<\/a> in his bare-knuckle MMA debut at Gamebred FC this past
\nApril.<\/p>\n
