Shavkat
\nRakhmonov<\/a> isn’t ready to say that his
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> career is over, but the unbeaten
\nwelterweight admits his return is far from guaranteed.<\/p>\n

Rakhmonov has been sidelined since defeating Ian Garry<\/a> in
\nDecember 2024. He entered that bout with a knee injury and it left
\na long-lasting impact. In a new interview, he reflected on the
\nfight and where he stands in the 170-pound division.<\/p>\n

Shavkat Rakhmonov details the knee injury that has kept him
\nsidelined since beating Ian Garry<\/h2>\n

\u201cNomad\u201d admits that he should not have competed with his injury. He
\nalso took a shot at Dagestani stars Khabib
\nNurmagomedov<\/a> and Islam
\nMakhachev<\/a>, claiming they would never fight injured.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, that\u2019s my problem; I couldn\u2019t fight,\u201d Rakhmonov told Alf
\nGlobal. \u201cIf I had fought, I could\u2019ve become champion, but that\u2019s
\nhow it turned out. I was injured. What can I do? We are only human.
\nI actually shouldn\u2019t even have fought Ian Garry<\/a> at
\nall. With injuries like that, I shouldn\u2019t have fought at all; I
\njust took a risk. That\u2019s the Kazakh way. Kazakhs are very daring.
\nThey\u2019re not afraid. If it had been some other Dagestani fighter
\nlike Khabib or Islam Makhachev, they definitely would\u2019ve
\nrefused.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rakhmonov then delved deeper into how his injury worsened during
\nthe Garry fight.<\/p>\n

\u201cI already had an injury going into the Ian Garry fight,\u201d he added.
\n\u201cI stepped in; I hadn\u2019t fought for a year; I wanted to fight. That
\nold injury was still bothering me a lot. My leg was swollen. And
\nwhen he was striking me, it was probably because I completely
\nlacked a ligament. I couldn\u2019t really feel that strike, in
\ngeneral.\u201d<\/p>\n
