\nMMA<\/a> bantamweight champion hasn\u2019t fought in nine months and
\ncan\u2019t afford to wait any longer for a shot at his old crown. He\u2019s
\nready to hunt, but his bloodlust has led him into hostile territory
\nand a new weight division.<\/p>\n

Magard, 34, makes his featherweight debut Saturday when he faces
\nhometown hero Radek
\nRousal<\/a> at
\nOktagon 93<\/a>, live from Winning Group Arena in Brno, Czech
\nRepublic. Magard (19-7) expects to receive the cold shoulder from
\nthe Brno fans hoping to see Rousal (7-2) notch a fourth straight
\nknockout, but the Danish veteran plans to leave the crowd at a loss
\nfor words.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always been the outside guy,\u201d Magard told Sherdog.com. \u201cI\u2019ve
\nalways been the guy that has to come in and prove myself. But to be
\nhonest, I love fighting the home crowd because I don\u2019t feel the
\npressure. It\u2019s me against him, and everything else is white noise.
\nAlthough I do like to silence a crowd. I\u2019ve done it many
\ntimes.\u201d Before Magard cemented his reputation as a card-stealing force, the
\nCopenhagen native struggled to find his footing early in the sport.
\nTwo years into his martial arts journey, he had already lost three
\nof his first four fights but didn\u2019t lose faith in his fledgling
\ncareer.<\/p>\n

Magard was simply a guppy in the sport before deciding he needed to
\ntrain in a bigger pond. His camp wasn\u2019t giving him the looks or
\nopportunities he needed, so Magard packed his bags and moved to
\nEngland to train with Carl Prince and the loaded roster at
\nManchester Top Team.<\/p>\n

Not long after the switch, Magard started to recognize his
\npotential as a future champion. He rattled off win after win, any
\nway he had to.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very stubborn,\u201d Magard admitted. \u201cI may not be the most
\ntalented fighter, but I\u2019ve always been the hardest-working fighter,
\nand I never considered giving up. I\u2019m very grateful for the losses
\nI\u2019ve had in my career because they built my character.\u201d<\/p>\n

Magard\u2019s character helped lead him to the Oktagon bantamweight
\ntitle in 2023. The former champion is aching to get his belt back,
\nbut despite being on a two-fight winning streak, Magard believes
\ntaking a risky fight against a dangerous opponent in a new division
\nis better than sitting on the sidelines.<\/p>\n

With the move to featherweight, Magard fully expects to potentially
\nrun into some heavy hitters. He\u2019s always been a big bantamweight,
\nso the cut isn\u2019t concerning, but Rousal\u2019s string of TKO finishes
\nshould absolutely be on his radar. Rousal is a skilled muay thai
\nspecialist, and Magard isn\u2019t interested in keeping the fight in the
\nbigger man\u2019s wheelhouse.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not a good matchup for him, and I will go in there and show
\nhim a whole new game,\u201d Magard boasted. \u201cEverything is different,
\nand I know how to mix everything up. The guys he\u2019s been fighting
\nonly come in with one style, and I\u2019ll have options to finish the
\nfight from anywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLook at his opponents and what they bring. Most of them are
\nbabies, while this will be my fifth main event for Oktagon. It\u2019s
\nnot my first five-round fight, and all these things are going to
\nplay out. I just know I\u2019m better than him.\u201d<\/p>\n

If all goes according to Magard\u2019s plan Saturday, the former
\nchampion expects to return to bantamweight but is open to wherever
\nopportunity presents itself. Like a shark, he wants to stay on the
\nhunt.<\/p>\n

\u201cA shark is like one big muscle; it has to keep moving or it will
\ndie,\u201d he said. \u201cI wasn\u2019t the biggest fan of the name at the start,
\nbut it\u2019s definitely growing on me.\u201d<\/p>\n
