Jones retired last year as the heavyweight champion after
\nrepeatedly stalling on a title unification bout with then-interim
\nchamp Tom
\nAspinall<\/a>. Aspinall was then promoted to undisputed status after
\nJones\u2019 retirement. However, the Englishman recently vacated the
\nbelt, which Steveson believes could pave the way for Jones\u2019 Octagon
\nreturn.<\/p>\n

Gable Steveson believes the open UFC heavyweight title picture
\ncould tempt Jon Jones out of retirement<\/h2>\n

Aspinall put his title on the line against Ciryl Gane<\/a>
\nlast October. The fight ended in an anticlimactic no-contest after
\na double-eye poke by Gane in the first round left Aspinall unable
\nto continue. Aspinall has since been inactive as he recovers from
\nmultiple eye surgeries. He recently vacated the heavyweight title
\nof his own accord.<\/p>\n

Amid rumors linking unbeaten Josh Hokit<\/a>
\nto fighting Gane for the undisputed title, Steveson believes Jones
\ncould be lured to return to action by the heavyweight title picture
\nopening up. Being Jones\u2019 regular training partner, Steveson is
\nconfident that \u201cBones\u201d can still handle himself against the best
\nheavyweights.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have heard rumbles of [Gane vs.] Josh Hokit,\u201d Steveson told RMC
\nSport Combat. \u201cThat would be a fantastic fight. Josh is another
\nfast guy that can keep up with the pace of Gane\u2026 I think Jon would
\nlike to come back also. Maybe seeing the belt opens up puts another
\nfire in him. Jon\u2019s my training partner every day in Albuquerque.
\nSo, I have seen what he can still do. I know he can do it at the
\nhighest level. Maybe his time will come again and I think it
\nwill.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Jones retired last year, he is still on the UFC roster and
\nhas been drug-tested thrice in 2026, leaving the window open for a
\nreturn. Meanwhile, Steveson is scheduled to take on Sean Sharaf<\/a>
\nat UFC
\n331<\/a> on Sept. 19 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n
