The longtime
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> welterweight contender is
\nscheduled to face Charles
\nRadtke<\/a> in his retirement bout at UFC
\n334<\/a> on Nov. 14 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
\nThompson has explained his reasoning for accepting a fight against
\nthe unranked welterweight.<\/p>\n

Stephen Thompson wants to give Charles Radtke the opportunity
\nveterans once gave him<\/h2>\n

\u201cWonderboy\u201d explained in an interview with Full Mount MMA that he
\nwants to leave the door open for a new wave of fighters. Thompson
\nbelieves he would not have become a perennial presence in the
\nwelterweight rankings if established fighters had not given him
\nsimilar opportunities earlier in his career. He now wants to give
\nRadtke the chance to work his way up the rankings.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy not go out with a chance to give these other guys an
\nopportunity to work their way up?\u201d Thompson said. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t have
\nmade it where I am today, especially being in the Top 5 – Top 10
\nfor so long, if it wasn\u2019t for the guys giving me the shot. Radtke
\nhas got tremendous potential; he is good everywhere. Why not give
\nthis guy a chance to, if he beats me, move up the rankings?\u201d<\/p>\n

Thompson has won four times since his back-to-back unsuccessful
\nwelterweight title bids against Tyron
\nWoodley<\/a> in 2016-17. He is currently on a three-fight losing
\nstreak, with his most recent victory coming in 2022. Meanwhile,
\nRadtke is 5-2 in the UFC, with his losses coming against Mike Malott<\/a>
\nand Carlos
\nPrates<\/a>.<\/p>\n
