Prates (24-7) is currently considered a leading contender for the

\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> welterweight title shot against
\nMakhachev (29-1). Covington predicts that the Brazilian would be
\nthe easiest opponent of Makhachev\u2019s career.<\/p>\n

Covington predicts Islam Makhachev will submit Carlos Prates,
\nquestions Michael Morales\u2019 experience<\/h2>\n

According to Covington, Makhachev would have little trouble taking
\nPrates down and submitting him.<\/p>\n

\u201cCarlos has nothing for him,\u201d Covington told Ariel Helwani. \u201cHe\u2019s
\njust a straight striker. That\u2019s gonna be the easiest fight of
\nMakhachev\u2019s career. I think [Makhachev] takes him down and submits
\nhim with a kimura or a head-and-arm choke.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unbeaten welterweight Michael
\nMorales<\/a> is another leading contender at 170 pounds. Covington
\nis unsure how Morales would fare against Makhachev, noting that the
\nEcuadorian has had few opportunities to demonstrate his grappling
\nskills in his last three bouts, all of which ended in first-round
\nknockouts.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe got to see how his [Morales\u2019] takedown defense is,\u201d Covington
\nadded. \u201cWe haven\u2019t seen him in any big fights, high-level
\nfive-round fights, so we don\u2019t know what to expect from him\u2026 I
\nthink he is still unproven and there\u2019s a lot to be seen from that
\nguy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prates and Makhachev have been linked to a potential title fight
\nearly next year, before the start of Ramadan. Meanwhile, Morales
\nrecently teased an upcoming fight announcement before fellow
\nundefeated welterweight Shavkat
\nRakhmonov<\/a> hinted at a potential matchup with the Ecuadorian.
\nBoth fighters hold 19-0 records.<\/p>\n
