\nAllen<\/a> strengthened his case for a middleweight title shot by
\nsubmitting Christian
\nLeroy Duncan<\/a> in the fifth round of their
\nUFC Vegas 122<\/a> main event Saturday at Meta Apex in Las
\nVegas.<\/p>\n

The competitive encounter featured striking exchanges, grappling
\nbattles and a second-round point deduction against Duncan for an
\neye poke. Duncan (15-3) found success on the feet, while Allen
\nrelied on his superior ground game.<\/p>\n

Brendan Allen secures fifth-round rear-naked choke against
\nChristian Leroy Duncan<\/h2>\n

Allen\u2019s grappling ultimately proved decisive. \u201cAll In\u201d scored a
\ntakedown against the cage in the fifth, worked his way to Duncan\u2019s
\nback and secured a rear-naked choke. \u201cCLD\u201d tried to escape but
\ntapped at 2:46 of the final round, allowing Allen to improve to
\n28-7. The lightweight co-main event saw Jai Herbert<\/a>
\ndefeat Matheus
\nCamilo<\/a> by unanimous decision. Camilo (11-4) started strongly
\nwith effective striking and ground control, but \u201cThe Black Country
\nBanger\u201d seized momentum on the canvas in the second and targeted
\nCamilo\u2019s body and head with punches in the third. All three judges
\nscored it 29-28 for Herbert, who improved to 15-6-1.<\/p>\n

Lupita
\nGodinez<\/a> earned a unanimous decision over Ketlen
\nSouza<\/a> in a closely contested bout. The Brazilian found success
\nwith her striking in the first two rounds, but \u201cLoopy\u201d secured a
\ntakedown in the third and controlled much of the remaining action.
\nAll three judges scored it 29-28 for Godinez (15-6). Souza fell to
\n17-7.<\/p>\n

UFC veteran Andre Fili<\/a>
\ndelivered a memorable knockout against fellow featherweight
\nKai
\nKamaka III<\/a>. \u201cTouchy\u201d hurt Kamaka with a left hook early in the
\nsecond round, then landed a right head kick that sent him
\nunconscious to the canvas. Referee Chris Tognoni immediately
\nintervened, giving Fili (26-14) the knockout victory 22 seconds
\ninto the round. Kamaka fell to 18-9-1.<\/p>\n

After a competitive opening round, bantamweights Malcolm
\nWellmaker<\/a> (10-3) and Otari
\nTanzilovi<\/a> appeared headed for another closely contested stanza.
\nTanzilovi (11-2) instead dropped Wellmaker with a head kick and
\nfollowed with punches. Referee Marc Goddard<\/a>
\nstopped the fight at 2:39 of the second, giving the Georgian a
\ntechnical knockout victory.<\/p>\n

In the featured preliminary bout, Julius
\nWalker<\/a> improved to 8-3 by stopping Gerald
\nMeerschaert<\/a> in the second round. \u201cJuice Box\u201d scored multiple
\ntakedowns in the light heavyweight contest and landed
\nground-and-pound until referee Herb Dean<\/a>
\nintervened at 3:35. Meerschaert (37-23) announced his retirement
\nafterward.<\/p>\n

After four consecutive decision losses, Francisco
\nPrado<\/a> earned his first UFC victory in more than three years.
\nThe Argentine (13-5) attacked Ismael
\nBonfim<\/a> with strikes and multiple takedowns before finishing him
\nwith ground-and-pound. Referee Jason Herzog stopped the fight at
\n4:23 of the first round. Bonfim (20-8), who missed weight by 7.5
\npounds, suffered another defeat.<\/p>\n

Niko
\nPrice<\/a> returned from retirement to overwhelm Leon
\nShahbazyan<\/a> and stop him in the first round. Price (17-11, 2 NC)
\npressured \u201cSOG\u201d with strikes, reversed a takedown and continued
\nattacking from top position until referee Chris Tognoni intervened.
\nThe welterweight bout ended at 1:58, dropping Shahbazyan to
\n12-6.<\/p>\n

Brendson
\nRibeiro<\/a> entered his matchup with Felipe
\nFranco<\/a> on a four-fight losing streak but wasted little time
\nsecuring a submission. \u201cThe Gorilla\u201d caught Franco in a standing
\nguillotine. Franco (11-3) took him to the canvas, but Ribeiro
\nmaintained the choke and rolled into mount, forcing the tap at 1:49
\nof the first round. Ribeiro (18-11, 1 NC), who missed weight,
\napologized afterward and described a difficult year personally.<\/p>\n

Allen
\nFrye<\/a> Jr. overcame an early disadvantage to stop fellow
\nheavyweight Richard
\nHarris<\/a> in the first round. \u201cAJ\u201d hurt Harris (6-1) with a
\ncounter right hand and followed with a barrage that sent him to the
\ncanvas. Frye (7-1) continued punching until referee Herb Dean<\/a>
\nintervened at 2:59, awarding him a technical knockout victory.<\/p>\n

Twenty-year-old Alice
\nPereira<\/a>, the youngest fighter on the UFC roster, defeated
\nRussia\u2019s Darya
\nZheleznyakova<\/a> (10-4). \u201cThe Golden Girl\u201d landed strikes on the
\nfeet before securing a takedown and attacking with
\nground-and-pound. An elbow opened a cut on Zheleznyakova\u2019s forehead
\nlate in the first round. She declined to continue between rounds,
\ngiving Pereira (8-1) a technical knockout victory officially
\nrecorded at 5:00 of the first.<\/p>\n

The opening women\u2019s flyweight bout between Ernesta
\n\u201cHeavy-Handed\u201d Kareckaite<\/a> and Melissa
\nGatto<\/a> (9-3-3) ended in a majority draw. Kareckaite (6-2-2) lost
\na point in the first round for grabbing the fence, a deduction that
\nprevented her from winning a split decision. One judge scored it
