Gaethje has expressed uncertainty about his future since winning
\nthe
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> lightweight belt at
\nUFC Freedom 250<\/a>. Tsarukyan strengthened his case for a title
\nshot by knocking out Mauricio
\nRuffy<\/a> at UFC
\n331<\/a> in September. Volkanovski, who retained his featherweight
\nchampionship against the previously unbeaten Movsar
\nEvloev<\/a> at
\nUFC 333<\/a>, would welcome a matchup with Tsarukyan if the
\n155-pound title becomes vacant.<\/p>\n

Alexander Volkanovski explains interest in potential
\nlightweight title fight<\/h2>\n

Although Volkanovski has called for a showdown with Gaethje, he
\nacknowledges that Tsarukyan deserves the next lightweight title
\nshot. The Australian sees a potential vacancy as an opportunity to
\npursue the belt without denying Tsarukyan his chance.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I was champion at lightweight, I’m fighting Arman,\u201d Volkanovski
\ntold Ariel Helwani. \u201cIf Gaethje doesn’t want to do that, I’ll do
\nit. That excites me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Volkanovski praised Tsarukyan\u2019s wrestling but expressed confidence
\nin his ability to get back to his feet.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone knows how I do against wrestlers,\u201d Volkanovski added.
\n\u201cEveryone knows I can handle wrestlers. I think he’s one of the
\nbest wrestlers and grapplers in the UFC, but you ain’t holding me
\ndown. Even Arman. I’ve got so much respect for him, but I’m getting
\nback up, and we’re standing and fighting. He’s got good stand-up
\ntoo, so that’ll be a fun fight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Volkanovski has challenged for the lightweight title twice, losing
\nboth times to Islam
\nMakhachev<\/a>.<\/p>\n
